Being born poor gave them the experience with the majority of the population. It also gave them a since of fairness and chivalry towards other people. Instead of acting selfish in the sway an ignorant rich person would they acted in a selfless, good for ll man kind kind of a way. With this upbringing they decided to give more than they received. If this was not true, these religions probably would not have existed, but if they did I'm guessing that the population of the religion would be centered with the better off. The teachings of the religion would either be negative or ignorant of the poor or average person.
